Ingrédients

For the Pasta
  • 1 pound Pasta such as penne, rigatoni, or rotini
For the Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 pound Ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 medium Onion chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 28 ounce can Crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper
For the Topping
  • 2 cups Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup Grated Parmesan cheese

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Large pot
  • Colander

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. While the pasta cooks, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground meat and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  4. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  5. Pour in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Add the drained pasta to the skillet with the sauce and stir to combine.
  7. Pour the pasta and sauce mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  8. In a small bowl, mix together the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Sprinkle evenly over the pasta.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are lightly browned.
  10. Let stand for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

You can add other vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms to the sauce. For a spicier dish, add red pepper flakes to the sauce.
