For the Casserole
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage casings removed
  • 8 ounces shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 slices bread cubed

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Spread the cooked sausage and shredded cheddar cheese evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  5. Arrange the cubed bread over the sausage and cheese layer.
  6. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread, ensuring all pieces are moistened. Press down gently with a spatula if needed.
  7. Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the casserole is set and golden brown on top. A knife inserted into the center should come out clean.
  8. Let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

You can prepare this casserole the night before. Cover it and refrigerate. In the morning, remove it from the refrigerator about 30 minutes before baking, or add a few extra minutes to the baking time.
