Ingrédients
  

For the Meat Sauce
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
For the Cheese Layer
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Other Ingredients
  • 12 lasagna noodles, uncooked

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Mixing bowls

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, cooking until softened.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese.
  5. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Layer 4 lasagna noodles, half the ricotta mixture, and a third of the mozzarella. Repeat layers, ending with meat sauce and remaining mozzarella.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 20 minutes until bubbly.
  7. Let rest for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, replace ground beef with sautéed mushrooms and spinach.
